(3 - C) The Skylark

The Skylark

This is the our 'Troglogite' (a troglodyte gîte - a guest home in a cave!)  It is a majestic space, with three entrances from the shared courtyard.  The main entrance opens up to a large living space with several alcoves, where we have dining, office, den and two single beds that give you an extra sleeping area.  There are doors also into the kitchen and the bedroom; all of the spaces are connected by interior doors too.

The kitchen is fully equipped with a full refrigerator, two electric burners and a combined microwave/traditional oven.  There is a dishwasher in the apartment, the clothes washer and dryer are in a shared laundry elsewhere on the property.

Please note that our "Skylark" is built in a series of connected caves - it is not a traditional house.  While it remains delightfully cool all summer, and is heated in the winter, you will have to adjust heaters and dehumidifiers to your comfort level, we give full instructions for their operation.

About Me

My photo
Frankly, I never thought I'd end up living here but - you see, I met a man. On a ski trip - Alps - chalet - fireplace - well, it's been over twenty years. I can't give you the complete insider's guide to France yet, (I believe that takes three generations) but I can give you an ex-New Yorker's guide to this fabulous Valley of Kings. We'd started in Paris, of course - our first studio was my husbands - that's where we lived once we decided to share a continent. We were there until our son was about negative-one-month old, and we didn't want to have to convert the bidet into a bassinet. Once we moved, I started renting out that apartment and everything fell into place. As an architect, I loved fixing up the apartments, and as an ex-pat, I loved meeting the people who come to enjoy their vacations in Paris. Now, we’ve made the move out to the Loire Valley. We've renovated two glorious properties here, creating several fabulous vacation homes, you’ve got to see the pictures. The locations are perfect for exploring the region – the chateaux, the wine, the scenery, it’s beautiful.
